American Association of Intensive English Programs

AAIEP Endorsement Policy

Amended May 2011.

  1. Use of the AAIEP logo will be limited to AAIEP member programs in good standing. AAIEP membership may not be represented as an “accreditation” agency in member program literature or on member program websites.
  2. Use of the AAIEP logo with a subscript, “AAIEP Associate”, will be limited to associate members in good standing, who ascribe to the AAIEP standards. Associate membership in AAIEP does not equate to AAIEP endorsement of that member’s products or services, and may not be represented as such in promotional literature.
  3. AAIEP will not endorse specific activities or organizations, with the exception of activities sponsored or co-sponsored by AAIEP.
  4. Links to the AAIEP web site (other than those of members and associate members) will be considered on a case by case basis relative to AAIEP’s institutional mission. Final approval rests with the President. Reciprocity will be expected in most cases.
  5. AAIEP will provide information to the membership from time to time about activities and services that the Association believes provide benefit to the membership. This information is provided as a service and without endorsement.

Complaints and Violations

Members who feel that another member program or associate may have violated provisions of this policy regarding representation of the AAIEP logo or name should file a complaint with the Vice President of Standards () for further investigation and follow-up. Pursuant to the Article V, Section 1 of the AAIEP Bylaws, failure to correct violations in a timely manner may lead to termination of membership for affected programs or associates, and a bar on subsequent membership, at the discretion of the AAIEP Executive Board. The Board reserves the right to take legal action in cases where it feels an organization has willfully misrepresented AAIEP membership.

AAIEP Policy on Multi-site Programs

Amended June 2011 based on by-laws revisions.

Membership

AAIEP membership is for intensive English programs. In the case of member programs with multiple sites, all sites must be accredited and apply for membership. Existing multi-site members that are not all accredited will have a grace period that mirrors the current law: unaccredited sites must demonstrate commitment to accreditation by December 14, 2011. Each site must receive accreditation and be members of AAIEP by December 14, 2013.

The following qualifiers determine when a program is separate and exclusive from other programs that may be operated by the same governing body:

  • a program has a distinct and separate location
  • program is distinct in its marketing materials
  • a program has a distinct and separate I-20 identifying code
  • a program is independent from any other office or site for administrative, curricular, and/or fiscal purposes

In most cases, the key determinant in differentiating a single-site program from a multi-site program is geographic distance, i.e. if a student cannot effectively attend classes at two sites as a part of a single course of study, the programs should be considered independent and separate.

The AAIEP Executive Board has the sole discretion to classify a program for membership purposes as either a single-site or a multi-site, in consultation with the Vice President for Standards and in keeping with the qualifiers listed above.

Complaints and Violations

Members who feel that a provision of AAIEP’s Policy on multi-site Programs may have been violated should file a complaint with the Vice President of Standards () for further investigation and follow-up. Pursuant to Article V, Section 1 of the AAIEP Bylaws, failure to correct violations in a timely manner may lead to termination of membership for all affected programs and a bar on subsequent membership of any programs within the multi-site organization, at the discretion of the AAIEP Executive Board. The Board reserves the right to take legal action in cases where it feels an organization has willfully misrepresented AAIEP membership.
