IIE is the administrator of the Fulbright Program, the U.S. Government's premier public diplomacy initiative. IIE publishes the most authoritative data about international education in the United States, including intensive English Programs, through their annual "Open Doors" survey. The Alliance is an association of nonprofit organizations comprising the international educational and cultural
exchange community in the United States. Its mission is to formulate and promote public policies that support
the growth and well-being of international exchange links between the people of the United States and other
nations. AAIEP is a member of the Alliance. University and College Intensive English Programs (UCIEP) A consortium of university and college-administered intensive English programs in the United States.
AAIEP and UCIEP are closely related (approximately half the members of UCIEP are also members of AAIEP).
CEA - Commission on English Language Program Accreditation The Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA), a not-for-profit corporation,
focuses on the accreditation of postsecondary English language programs and institutions in
the United States. The underlying principles of CEA accreditation are the following: 1) advance
standards and promote excellence in English language instruction and in the administration of
English language programs and institutions; 2) provide an objective means to review the quality
of programs and institutions using validated standards of the profession through voluntary peer
review; 3) use trained and experienced professionals to take part in identifying the strengths
and areas of improvement of English language programs and institutions seeking accreditation; 4)
publicly recognize programs and institutions that meet the standards; 5) assure the quality of
English language programs and institutions for students and the public. ACCET - Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training Recognized by the U.S. Department of Education since 1978, ACCET provides
institutional accreditation for organizations whose primary function is
for educational purposes and also for organizations offering continuing
education as a clearly identified institutional objective within the
operational entity. ACCET 's review of such organizations concentrates on
educational quality, the continuous assessment and improvement of
educational practices, and assistance to member institutions in the
improvement of these practices within their programs. The four major
components of this on-going process are: (1) the development and
implementation of institutional and program goals and objectives that
focus upon a continuing education mission, (2) a comprehensive, analytic
self-evaluation review and report by the institution, (3) an on-site
professional peer review to evaluate the adequacy and accuracy of the
self-evaluation, and (4) an independent review and decision by the
Accrediting Commission as an assessment the institution's commitment to
and compliance with ACCET standards, policies and procedures. TESOL TESOL - Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages - is an
acronym that refers to both the field itself and the professional
association. TESOL is a Professional Association. Founded in 1966, the
global education association, Teachers of English to Speakers of Other
Languages, Inc. (TESOL), headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, has
approximately 14,000 members in over 120 countries, and is recognized as
a non-governmental organization (NGO) of the United Nations Department of
Public Information. Its mission is to ensure excellence in English
language teaching to speakers of other languages. FELCA Felca is the forum of national language and education travel associations
from all over the world. Its members include the national associations
of Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Korea, Spain, France, Italy and
Belgium. The members of the national associations are individual businesses
whose role it is to advise and counsel students who want to travel
overseas to study at a language school, high school or university. |
