NOTICE REGARDING CHANGES IN MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

Members of AAIEP have approved a change to the AAIEP Bylaws whereby all member programs will fall into one of these three categories by September 30, 2008:

  • Under the governance of a regionally accredited institution (typically a college or university)

This change does not impact ACCET or CEA-accredited current and prospective members: such programs should continue to submit the form “AAIEP PSA Attestation of ACCET/CEA Accreditation” (see the last three pages of the PSA form).

Prospective members who apply before September 30, 2006 and who have begun either the ACCET or CEA accreditation process must submit the full Program Self-Appraisal (PSA) as well as a letter from ACCET or CEA attesting that they have begun the accreditation process. To continue membership, these programs must successfully complete the accreditation process no later than 24 months after they have submitted their PSA or by September 30, 2008, whichever comes first.

Prospective members applying after September 30, 2006 must be accredited by ACCET or CEA, or be under the governance of a regionally accredited institution, when they apply.  Applicants who are under the governance of an institution that has been regionally accredited must submit a full Program Self-Appraisal (PSA), the institution's letter of accreditation and a statement from the program director's supervisor stating that the program is under the institution's governance. (For more on regional accrediting associations, see the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or the U.S. Department of Education.)

Current members who do not fall into at least one of the three categories listed above must provide proof no later than March 30, 2007 that they have begun the ACCET or CEA accreditation process. They must become accredited no later than September 30, 2008.

Questions should be addressed to AAIEP's Vice President for Standards at standards@aaiep.org.
