American Language & Culture Institute (ALCI)

Description

ALCI is a university-based Intensive English program. We offer year-round instruction at all proficiency levels from beginning through advanced. Our goal is not only to teach English, but also to provide every student with a memorable and wonderful international experience. We look forward to assisting students of all nationalities with their English study.

Location

Chico is in beautiful Northern California in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Parks and tree lined streets make it a wonderful place to live and study. Chico is known for being a friendly, safe, and affordable place to live.

ALCI instructors are professionally trained and hold Masters' degrees in English with concentration on TESOL, or a related field.

Facilities

Students receive ID cards which entitles them to use campus facilities such as the library, student health centers, sports facilities, computer labs with email accounts and internet access, Testing office, and the International Student Advising Office.

If you would like to live with a host family, there is a $100 one-time placement fee due at the time the homestay application is received. Additional fees include field trips and registration for special classes.
Notes on Fees:
A health and accident insurance policy is required for enrollment at ALCI. You may purchase an insurance policy during orientation, or you may bring a policy from home which is valid while you are enrolled at ALCI.

There are several housing options available including on-campus residence halls, off-campus residence halls, private apartments or homestays. The best option for you depends on such factors as your age, budget, social and cultural interests, and individual preferences. Note: The dormitory and homestay fees (quoted above) include meals. The apartment fees do not include meals.

Student Services

Educational and recreational activities and events are planned for students each session, including field trips, holiday parties, and conversation partners. Free airport pickup at Chico Municipal Airport.

Educational Service Opportunities

Open University provides an opportunity for students to enroll in regularly-scheduled university classes without formal admission to the university if they meet eligibility requirements. A full range of academic advising and assistance is provided by our knowledgeable, friendly staff.

Transportation

Chico has excellent bus service, which is free for ALCI students. Many students choose to ride a bicycle for transportation.
