Description

The ICESL is an integral part of Concordia College, a 4-year, co-educational liberal arts institution, located in a small, affluent suburb of New York City.The International Center offers an intensive full-time (20 hours/week) and part-time program for academic, professional, and social purposes. There are two 15-week programs during the academic year, and a 4-week program during the summer. Students are included in campus activities and special programs. Advanced and some intermediate students are able to take regular university classes with the approval of the program director.

Location

Concordia's 30-acre campus is set in the small, affluent village of Bronxville, New York. New York City is only 27 minutes from the campus via the fast and clean MetroNorth commuter train.

Teaching Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in TESL or related field, native speaker of English, some teaching experience, ability to work well with people, enthusiasm for teaching.

Concordia is a traditional red-brick campus. International students use all facilities, including library, computer labs, fitness center, tennis courts, athletic center, campus center, chapel, and music practice studios.

Based on partial 15-week semester, includes meals. Housing in college dormitories is available for full-time international students. Whenever possible, international students are paired with American roommates. We suggest that students apply early in order to reserve a room. A refundable deposit of $150 is required for dormitory students.

Student Services

Advisors, college counselors, and admissions department counselors are available to help students with academic, personal, and visa needs. Students participate in over 20 clubs and organizations, such as intramural athletics, Bible study, drama, and music ensembles. Students also use all college facilities.

Educational Service Opportunities

Academic advising, academic tutoring, and field trips are available throughout the year. Students may take computer, music, and physical education classes. Advanced students may take additional college classes with the approval of the program director.

Transportation

Airport pick-up from JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and Westchester airports can be arranged. New York City is just a short walk and a 30-minute train ride. Local bus transportation is available for sites within Westchester County.

Application Information

Students applying to the program must submit an ICESL application, with a $60 application fee. Students applying for a student visa (F1) complete an application for the Form I-20, and submit a financial statement with a $500 tuition deposit. Applications are accepted year-round.
