ELS Language Centers/HoustonDescriptionELS Language Centers offers a group intensive program that is divided into 12 levels, from beginning to highly advanced. A Masters Level for highly advanced students is offered. Each level takes four weeks to complete. In addition, students at the intermediate and advanced levels may choose from a variety of special interest courses, including Business English, TOEFL Preparation, Multimedia Language Lab, Current Events and Idiomatic English. ELS Language Centers also offers Executive Training Programs customized to meet the particular needs of each student. There are two basic programs offered: Intensive English Course = 30 lessons per week [Thirty 50-minute lessons each week]; Semi-Intensive English Course = 20 lessons per week [Twenty 50-minute lessons each week]. Four-week sessions start every month throughout the year. A calendar of start dates may be found on our website at www.els.edu. LocationHouston, America's fourth-largest city, is the center of the energy industry and a major international port. This culturally rich metropolis is also home to the largest, most advanced medical center in the world. The University of St. Thomas offers state-of-the-art computer labs, a pool, gymnasium, weight room, and tennis, basketball and racquetball courts. Beautiful Gulf of Mexico beaches and sailing are located one hour from ELS. Visit the National Air and Space Administration (NASA) and Space Center Houston. For a taste of the Old West, student excursions include horseback riding and rodeos. Take weekend trips to San Antonio, Dallas, New Orleans and Mexico - all are easily accessible. Proprietary ELS textbooks, authored by the most respected authors in the field and available only to ELS students, are included in program tuition at Levels 101-109. Students at Levels 110-112 use authentic college-level English materials.
Also included is standardized level completion testing developed in cooperation with The Chauncy Group InternationalTM, a subsidiary of the Educational Testing Service® (ETS). These tests accurately measure a student's abilities upon completing each ELS level. ETS is the maker of SAT, GMAT, TOEFL, TOEIC and other standardized tests. AccommodationsHomestay: $840

The campus apartments are fully-furnished two-bedroom two-bathroom apartments that include a laundry room and kitchen, and are located 2 blocks from the Center (http://www.richmontsquare.com). Homestays are conveniently located in the vicinity of the Center and are very popular. We can also help with finding a private apartment, and hotel/extended stay options are also widely available. Student ServicesBefore applying to ELS Language Centers, students can contact a local counseling agent in their city/country by going to www.els.edu. Upon arrival, students will have access to the Center's international student advising team for counseling services. The advising team provides a wide range of services that include airport pickup, assistance with housing, cultural orientation, help with immigration matters, college admissions counseling, and sponsorship of a variety of social and recreational activities. Educational Service OpportunitiesNearly 600 colleges, universities and career schools in the U.S. accept completion of the ELS Intensive English program in place of the TOEFL. University placement services are provided, and students may earn university credit based on their ELS study upon enrolling at select partner institutions. A listing of ELS partner schools is available at www.els.edu. TransportationMost students use public transportation as two major bus lines stop right outside the Center. This is an easy and affordable way to get around the city. Also the city's new light rail line stops just 1/2 a kilometer away and is great for getting downtown. Or Center personnel can assist you with renting or purchasing a car. Airport pick-up can be arranged at either Bush Intercontinental Airport, or at Hobby International Airport.
