Description

Founded in 1979, the University of Delaware English Language Institute (ELI) is a leader in the field of English as a Second Language. The ELI offers the highest quality intensive English programs for degree-seeking students, business and legal professionals, language teachers, and general English language learners. The ELI's Intensive English Program offers a wide selection of courses to meet your specific goals (academic, business, cultural, and general English), proficiency level (beginner through high advanced), and schedule (six two-month sessions are offered each year). Private tutoring and a cultural program are included in the full intensive program. The ELI also offers specialized programs in PreMBA, legal English, teacher training, and executive English.

Location

The ELI is located in beautiful Newark, Delaware, a small, safe college town centrally located on the East Coast of the US. Newark is two hours by car or train from Washington, D.C. and New York City (170 km) and one hour from historic Philadelphia and the lovely Baltimore inner harbor (80 km). Nearby recreational areas on the Atlantic Ocean and in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania offer students a variety of summer and winter activities.

Teaching Qualifications

All classroom instructors are members of the University of Delaware faculty. They are native speakers, hold master's degrees in English as a Second Language or Applied Linguistics, and have extensive training and experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). Because of our faculty expertise, the University of Delaware is a major teacher training center. Over the years, many government agencies and universities have turned to ELI faculty for training in better teaching methods. Active in professional organizations such as TESOL and NAFSA, our outstanding faculty have enriched the field of ESL through their research, publications, and instructional innovation.
