ELS Language Centers/PhiladelphiaDescriptionELS Language Centers offers a group-intensive course that is divided into 12 levels, from beginning to highly advanced. Each level takes four weeks to complete. There are two basic programs: Intensive English = 30 hours/week; Semi-Intensive English = 20 hours/week. Electives include TOEFL Preparation, Multi-Media Language Lab, Business English, Current Events and Idiomatic English.
Four-week sessions start every month throughout the year. A calendar of start dates may be found on our website at www.els.edu. LocationPhiladelphia, the birthplace of the United States and the second-largest city on the East Coast, is a modern yet historic city offering visitors a lively experience in American culture. Philadelphia is ideally located for East Coast travel, as New York, Washington, and Atlantic City are within two hours by train. Students enrolled in the intensive program in Level 107 and above may observe university classes at no extra charge, and students who complete Level 112 and are accepted to Saint Joseph's University receive generous scholarships. Level 109 and above students may participate in the Internship Experience program, with placements in area businesses and professional offices.

FacilitiesStudents study on the beautiful campus of Saint Joseph's University and have free access to all university facilities, including a well-equipped sports center with an Olympic-sized swimming pool, fitness center, tennis, squash, and basketball courts, and saunas. Students may also use university computer labs and libraries. Free movies and weekend activities are offered throughout the year.

Proprietary ELS textbooks, authored by the most respected authors in the field and available only to ELS students, are included in program tuition at Levels 101-109. ELS Philadelphia students may choose from carefully-selected homestays within walking distance of the university or luxurious new dormitory apartments. The dormitory price does not include meals. The hotel fee does not include tax. Reservations must be made by ELS staff members to obtain this special price. Student ServicesBefore applying to ELS Language Centers, students can contact a local counseling agent in their city/country by going to www.els.edu. Upon arrival, students will have access to the Center's international student advising team for counseling services. The advising team provides a wide range of services that include airport pickup, assistance with housing, cultural orientation, help with immigration matters, college admissions counseling, and sponsorship of a variety of social and recreational activities. Educational Service OpportunitiesNearly 600 colleges, universities and career schools in the U.S. accept completion of the ELS Intensive English program in place of the TOEFL. University placement services are provided, and students may earn university credit based on their ELS study upon enrolling at select partner institutions. A listing of ELS partner schools is available at www.els.edu. TransportationPhiladelphia is well served by buses, commuter trains, trolleys and subways. The university can be reached by the #44 and #65 buses and the R-5 train from many locations throughout the city. Airport pickup service can be arranged.
