English Language InstituteDescriptionELI offers eight levels of intensive English emphasizing communication and academic skills. Courses are designed to help students enter American universities. Students completing ELI's Bridge Course can enter the Univ. of Utah conditionally without TOEFL. Classes are held on Univ. of Utah campus and students have access to facilities and public transportation. Students can work on campus.
LocationThe University of Utah, home to the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, is located in the state's capital city with a population of half a million. Salt Lake is a clean, safe city - a great place in which to live and study. It is situated at the "Crossroads of the West" within one day's drive to many amazing national parks and wilderness areas. A wide variety of recreational and cultural activities, from live theater, concerts, and a major film festival to winter skiing and summer hiking, are available close by. Utah's fine, light, powder snow attracts skiers from all over the world.

Fees are for full-time study in our regular intensive program - eight week sessions at $1,700 each. Books and health insurance fees are estimates. For continuing students discounts may be available.

Fees are monthly and depend on level of accomodation. Dormitory fees do not include mandatory meal plans which are around $350 per month. ELI does not arrange housing. Students must contact the Office of HOusing and Residential Education for Dormitories and the homestay company for Host Family placement (information on ELI's website). Apartment, cooperative and hotel accomodations are arranged by the students themselves. Student ServicesStudents receive a university ID card which entitles them to university privileges such as use of library, computer and language labs, discounts on movies, concerts, and city bus/rail passes. Students can also join the campus recreation facilities center for a nominal fee. ELI program activities include field trips, parties, and trips to scenic areas within the state. Educational Service OpportunitiesAcademic, cross-cultural, and visa status counseling is provided. Individualized academic programs for prospective graduate students available. Matriculated students may receive credit-equivalency for ELI classes. TransportationCity bus and light rail service is available at a reduced cost with university ID; free shuttle buses operate on campus. Application InformationStudents must send an application, $65 non-refundable application fee, financial statement showing a balance of $6,600 (estimated expenses for two eight-week sessions), and a copy of passport picutre page. Financial sponsors must sign Univ.'s affidavit of support. Transfer students must follow regular students' application requirements and submit a transfer form from their current school. |
