Intensive English Language Institute

Description

IELI is a comprehensive, 4-level (elementary through advanced) program which offers academic credit (undergraduate) for language study. It is housed in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at USU. Students who successfully complete the program meet the English prerequisite for admission to both graduate and undergraduate study at Utah State University without the TOEFL. Location

The Intensive English Language Institute (IELI) is an academic program on the campus of Utah State University (USU) in Logan, Utah. Logan is located in a scenic mountain valley 85 miles north of Salt lake City, the state capital. With a very low crime rate, Logan is considered a safe and peaceful place to study. The university has approximately 17,000 students; about 5% are international students.

Teaching Qualifications

All faculty have an MA in TESL or closely related field and some faculty also have Ph.D.s. All faculty have lived and/or taught overseas.

Notes on Fees:
Tuition includes student activity fees for access to the Health Center, recreation centers, tennis courts, sporting events, and other student activities. Health insurance is additional and is required of all international students. The other required fee is a $100 International Student Fee.

Dormitory fees vary with the type of housing selected and meal plan options. $2,000 for a one-semester (approximately 15 weeks) contract in a shared room with 10 meals per week is a typical mid range housing option.  Apartments vary from about $400 to $700 per month. Educational Service Opportunities

Students who complete USU's Intensive English Language Institute do not need to submit TOEFL scores to enter a degree program at USU. Depending upon major field, up to 18 credits of intensive English course apply as elective toward graduation.
