Our ESL program is designed to help you improve your English language skills for daily life, academic study, and your career.

Location

Monterey is located on the Pacific Coast of California. Students here enjoy the quiet, safe town and friendly people. Monterey features beautiful scenery and mild weather. The campus is close to Fisherman’s Wharf, beaches, and bicycle and hiking paths. Monterey is conveniently located only 125 miles (201 km) south of San Francisco, 65 miles (104 km) south of San Jose and Silicon Valley, and 345 miles (555 km) north of Los Angeles.

Teaching Qualifications

We are affiliated with the MA TESOL program at the Monterey Institute and most of our instructors come through that affiliation.  All instructors hold Master's degrees in TESOL or have MA's in progress.

Facilities

The IESL program is housed in the Kinnoull House, a Victorian-era building in the historic section of Monterey.  The first floor contains classrooms, while the second floor includes program offices and our ESL Cafe.

Students also have access to all the facilities of the Monterey Institute, including:

  • Computer labs and digital media center
  • Cafeteria
  • Student centers suitable for studying, socializing, eating, watching TV, and playing ping-pong
  • A quiet reading room
  • A prayer/meditation room
  • Recreation equipment available for checkout free of charge
