Description

ELS Language Centers offers a group-intensive course that is divided into 12 levels, from beginning to highly advanced.  Each level takes four weeks to complete.  There are two basic programs: Intensive English = 30 hours/week; Semi-Intensive English = 20 hours/week. Electives include TOEFL Preparation, Multi-Media Language Lab, Business English, Current Events and Idiomatic English.

Four-week sessions start every month throughout the year.  A calendar of start dates may be found on our website at www.els.edu.

Location

La Verne is a lovely, safe and small city of 31,000, just 55 kilometers east of Los Angeles, and adjacent to the city of Pomona.  The University of La Verne (ULV)campus surrounds the downtown area of La Verne. Students can walk across the street from campus classrooms to have coffee or a meal in the town.  La Verne is a residential community where students will enjoy a friendly small town atmosphere.

Tuition includes acess to all University of La Verne facilities including library, computer labs, fitness center, weight room, swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, and student events-many of them free with the ULV id provides to ELS students.

  • A housing deposit of $200 per four-week session is required if ELS arranges housing.

Notes on Fees:
Proprietary ELS textbooks, authored by the most respected authors in the field and available only to ELS students, are included in program tuition at Levels 101-109. Students at Levels 110-112 use authentic college-level English materials.

Also included is standardized level completion testing developed in cooperation with The Chauncy Group InternationalTM, a subsidiary of the Educational Testing Service® (ETS). These tests accurately measure a student's abilities upon completing each ELS level. ETS is the maker of SAT, GMAT, TOEFL, TOEIC and other standardized tests.

On Campus Dormitory (double occupancy): Dorms feature shared room and bath and central living room and kitchenette on each floor. Each room includes: two twin beds, two desks, two dressers, and two closets. Students live with American college students. The dorms are located just 2 minutes to classes. Meal plans are available.

Sheraton Student Residence Hall (double occupancy). The Sheraton Fairplex Suites is located just 5 minutes from the center by car. Transportation to/from the center is provided daily. Each room includes two full beds, separate living area with microwave, coffeemaker, sink, and mini refrigerator, two televisions, desk and chair, and sofa.  

American Homestay includes 14 meals. Homestay provides students with a private room. Meals include self serve breakfast and sit down dinner with host. Families within a 45 minute bus, bike, or walk to the center.

Student Services

Before applying to ELS Language Centers, students can contact a local counseling agent in their city/country by going to www.els.edu.  Upon arrival, students will have access to the Center's international student advising team for counseling services.  The advising team provides a wide range of services that include airport pickup, assistance with housing, cultural orientation, help with immigration matters, college admissions counseling, and sponsorship of a variety of social and recreational activities.

Educational Service Opportunities

Nearly 600 colleges, universities and career schools in the U.S. accept completion of the ELS Intensive English program in place of the TOEFL.  University placement services are provided, and students may earn university credit based on their ELS study upon enrolling at select partner institutions.  A listing of ELS partner schools is available at www.els.edu.

Transportation

Buses, taxis, trains, and metrorail are all available. Airport pick up service can be arranged from either Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) or Ontario Airport.
