English Language Institute

Description

The ELI has been teaching English to international students since 1964.  Our program offers general and academic English as well as many opportunities to use the language outside of class through activities, conversation partners, volunteer opportunities and trips.

Location

The ELI and the University of Pittsburgh are located in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, 15 minutes by bus from downtown Pittsburgh.  We are across the street from major museums, a park and a Carnegie public library.

 

Pittsburgh is a medium-sized city in the northeast of the U.S.  it is the perfect combination of big-city opportunities and small-town friendliness.  The city is within an easy drive of New York, Washington DC, Niagara Falls and Chicago.

University fees include an ID card, which gives students free use of city and campus buses, all computer labs, libraries and gyms.

 The ELI Housing Assistant can help students find apartments or roommates year round. 

Student Services

ELI students have access to all university services:  a health clinic for minor illnesses, a counseling center, and a center for learning disabilities, among others.  The university testing center offers all major tests, including TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, GMAT, SAT and LSAT.

The ELI Student Advisor offers assistance with completing university applications, culture workshops and is in close contact with the university's Office of International Services in order to assist our students with their admission to the University of Pittsburgh.

ELI students are able to use city buses for free with their Pitt ID card.
