Description

  • The American Language Institute ALI) at New York University was founded over 50 years ago. Annually, the Institute enrolls over 2,500 students from 75 countries. In addition to preparing students for study at an American college or university, the ALI provides business English and specialized courses for international professionals. Other features include: accent reduction courses, teaching internships, and special group programs in the Summer: American English in New York.

Location

NYU's Washington Square campus is located in the heart of Manhattan's historic Greenwich Village, walking distance to SoHo, the East Village, and Wall Street.

Student Services

ALI has an International Student Adviser on staff to provide visa information and assistance and counseling.  Office staffers are available to help students take advantage of the wealth of cultural and entertainment opportunities that abound in one of the world's liveliest cities. Weekly events are schedule in individual classes. Conversation practice with native speakers can be arranged, and discount theater and music tickets are made available to students.

Educational Service Opportunities

Prior to registration all students take the American Language Institute proficiency test which concludes with a one-on-one interview with a faculty member. An international student advisor is available for educational counseling. The School of Continuing and Professional Studies has a center for Career, Education and Life Planning as well.

Transportation

Students arrange their own transportation from the three airports serving the New York metropolitan area.  Yellow taxis have fixed rate fares.  NYU transportation service is available to numerous University locations.
