American Language InstituteDescriptionThe Intensive English Program is 15 weeks in length during the Fall and Spring semesters and 12 weeks in the Summer session. This program is designed to prepare students for American colleges and universities. Successful completion of level 4 of the program fulfills English language admission requirement for CSULB undergraduate programs requiring a TOEFL score of 500 (CBT 173.) Successful completion of level 6 of the program fulfills English language admission requirements for CSULB graduate programs requiring a TOEFL score of 550 (CBT 213.) The areas of focus in this program are Reading/Vocabulary, Writing, Grammar, Communication Skills, plus an Elective. The elective classes include the TOEFL and GMAT preparation, Pronunciation, Street Talk, Computer and other interesting subjects. There are 25 hours of study a week for levels 1-4. Students in level 5 take 15 hours of English instruction with one, 3-unit university class. Students in level 6 take 9 hours of English instruction and two, 3-unit university classes. The Practical English Program is 3-week in length and is offered in July and August every year. This program is 20 hours a week of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking for those individuals who are in the U.S. on vacation or professionals who would like to improve their communication skills.
LocationSituated in Southern California, Long Beach is close to every type of terrain and climate that in one day, you could surf in the morning, snow ski in the afternoon, and come home and see a movie at night. Many famous Southern California landmarks and attractions are easily within a two-hour drive from the university.

Dormitory space is limited; therefore, we encourage that students contact the ALI Office in advance. We also host welcome lunch, picnic, certificate ceremony and the end-of-session dance party. Students also receive a class photo at the end of each term. TransportationGreat public bus system throughout Long Beach. Free shuttle service on campus, and free bus service in downtown Long Beach. Approximately 30 minutes to downtown Los Angeles from downtown Long Beach by train. Application InformationSubmit completed ALI application, bank statement with a minimum balance of US $8,000 (or equivalent in foreign currency) and $100 non-refundable application fee.
