WESL Institute

Description

WESL Institute is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation. WESL offers instruction in academic English for students who are preparing to enter an American college or university in two 16-week semesters (fall and spring) and an 8-week program in the summer. Students attend classes 20 hours per week, and develop skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking and build academic, social and cross-cultural skills needed for university work. Macomb is a friendly, safe city which provides a positive study environment.

Location

Macomb, 20,000 population, is 373 kilometers southwest of Chicago, 243 kilometers north of St. Louis, and 68 kilometers from the Mississippi River.

Teaching Qualifications

Instructors have graduate degrees and special training in teaching ESL, with an average of 12 years' teaching experience at the WESL Institute. Many have lived and studied in other countries.

WESL students have full use of university facilities and may participate in all recreational/cultural activities of WIU. All international students receive personal attention from a highly trained and experienced staff who provide an extensive orientation and welcome program, and assistance with personal, cultural, financial, visa and immigration concerns. Many activities for international students are organized throughout the year as well.
