English Language AcademyDescriptionThe English Language Academy is an intensive academic English program in the third largest city in the United States - Chicago. Academy students are professionals or students who want to improve their English for professional or academic reasons. The average age of our students is 24, and about 65% have received university degrees in their own countries. They come from every continent and in any given term represent between 35 and 40 countries. Full-time students take four courses: Writing and Word Processing; Reading and Vocabulary; Grammar; Spoken English and Listening. Students are placed on the basis of tests into one of five levels: Foundations; Intermediate; High Intermediate; Advanced; University Bridge. The ELA also operates a TOEFL Intensive Program (TIP), offering 19.5 hours of test preparation per week.
LocationCentrally located in the Chicago "Loop" or business district, at DePaul's Loop Campus.
Teaching QualificationsAll instructors are required to have a master's degree in TESOL, TEFL, or a closely related field. If the degree is in a related field instructors must have significant course work in the areas of linguistics/English linguistics, cluture and society, educational foundations, and second language pedagogy or second language acquisition. Prior experience in teaching English to speakers of other languages is required, prior IEP experience preferred.
