Description

  • The 6, 10, and 12-week Academic Intensive English Program (AIEP)prepares students for American colleges and universities as well as students who need to improve their general English ability for personal or professional reasons. Speaking, listening, reading and writing skills are taught at 7 levels of proficiency.
  • The 3 or 4-week Intensive English Communication Program (IECP) is for students who use English for professional or personal reasons. Speaking and listening are taught at 3 levels (beginning, intermetiate, advanced).
  • The ACC (American Culture and Communication) course is a part time four-week program designed to improve English language skills and fluency. Tailored for students who are planning to come to Los Angeles on a Tourist Visa or who are already in the area visiting.
  • Advanced programs include offerings through the UCLA Open Doors Enrollment Program, UCLA credit courses offered through UCLA Summer Sessions, UCLA Extension courses, and UCLA Extension Certificate Programs.
  • Global Discovery for High School Students is offered to students age 14-17 for three weeks during the summer, in cooperation with the Summer Discovery Program.The program includes 15 fifty-minute class sessions of English instruction per week, UCLA double occupancy housing and a full program of activities/excursions.

Location

UCLA is not only one of the most prestigious and top-ranked research universities in the United States, but is also has one of the most beautiful campuses and features both undergraduate and graduate programs and 11 professional schools. UCLA is well known for a number of other factors, including its libraries with over 7 million volumes, its prizewinning athletic teams, and its performing arts programs. UCLA played a major role in the 1984 Summer Olympics and in the 1991 U.S. Olympic festival. Established in 1917, UCLA Extension is the largest single-campus continuing higher education program in the world. The American Language Center is located in Westwood Village, one of the most attractive and safest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Westwood is the gateway to UCLA's nearly 200-hectare campus and offers restaurants, shops, and other attractions for students and the nearby community. The ALC is only minutes away by bus from Beverly Hills, Hollywood, and the Pacific Ocean. Los Angeles has a mild, sunny, mediterranean climate.

The full-time AIEP program is 10 weeks during the school year and 12 weeks or six weeks during the summer. The full-time Intensive English Communication Program is four weeks throughout the year, except for a 3-week session in late summer.

Notes on Fees:
The above fees represent the range for our three to twelve week programs. There is a $200 -400 student service fee included in the following course fees: Our six-week AIEP course fee is $1830; the 10-week AIEP course fee is $3045; the 12-week AIEP course fee is $3660. The three-week (offered in summer) IECP course is $1165 and the four week IECP is $1520.

UCLA on-campus housing (dormitory) is only available in the summer. The dormitory prices is based on a 3 week stay with 15 meals per weeks. Dormitory prices will increase according to number of roommates, meals, etc. There is a $50 application fee. The prices for homestay, apartment, cooperative and hotel options are the minimum rates. Prices will increase according to number of roommates, meals, etc. There is an application fee for these options.

Transportation

UCLA and the surrounding communities have an excellent system of bus lines. These lines provide the rider with convenient access to destinations throughout the city of Los Angeles and Los Angeles County and, of course, to the UCLA Extension American Language Center. The ALC maintains bus schedule information for many of the lines serving the Los Angeles Westside area. The Campus Express is a free shuttle bus that takes students from various places in Westwood Village to several main parts of the campus.
