Description

ELC's Intensive English Program and Semi Intensive Plus Programs focus on building communicative competence. Students work on all aspects of English with the focus changing throughout the day so all skills are practiced.

Intensive English Program

The Intensive English Program includes Sections A, B and C. Section A is titled Grammar Structure & Usage and focuses not only on teaching students the rules for grammar usage, but also on giving students the opportunity to practice using grammar in both speaking and writing. Section B is Conversation, Listening, Vocabulary, and Pronunciation Monday through Friday. Students practice speaking in English and listening to and understanding English spoken by native speakers. Teachers also give feedback and special exercises to help students improve pronunciation. Section C begins at 1:45pm and consists of two 50-minute lessons.  Students at the beginning level study Reading & Writing. Intermediate and advanced students will choose an elective in addition to Reading & Writing. The Reading & Writing component of Section C exposes students to more vocabulary (through reading) and provides them with practice using English in all types of writing (from formal essays to formal and informal letters.) The special elective classes offer students the opportunity to practice language in areas of special interest and to learn English in an innovative and exciting context.

Semi-Intensive Plus Program

The Semi-Intensive Plus Program at ELC is designed to promote communicative competence in English and consists of Sections A and B (described above) Monday through Friday, and Section C on Tuesday and Thursday. Classes are from 9:00am to 12:40pm each day with afternoon classes from 1:45pm to 3:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday. There is a 20-minute break and two 5-minute breaks throughout the day. Intermediate and advanced students will study one of our special elective classes.
