English Language InstituteDescriptionAs the only intensive English language program in the metropolitan Detroit area, the English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University (WSU) has specialized exclusively in teaching English communication, cultural orientation, and academic preparation skills to non-native speakers of English from all over the world for more than 35 years.
Teaching QualificationsFor All ELI instructors have graduate degrees in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Linguistics, or a related field as well as years of experience teaching students from many different countries and cultures. In addition, they are committed to helping internationals and new immigrants adjust to living and studying in the United States.

The ELI offers "Conditional Admission" to Graduate and Undergraduate students who qualify. For those seriously interested in improving their English and academic skills and preparing for university study in a relatively short period of time, the ELI provides the services and benefits of the only intensive English language program in metropolitan Detroit. This intensive program consists of up to 24 class hours per week of beginning-level through advanced-level instruction. Beginning and intermediate classes teach communicative skills and integrate listening, speaking and pronunciation in one module and reading, writing and grammar in a second, week-long module. Advanced classes continue to reinforce basic skills while emphasizing academic skills. Private Classes: No
